Dr. Willingham is Chief of the Division of Digestive Health and Liver Diseases, the Kenneth C. Griffin Endowed Chair of Gastroenterology, and Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He earned a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, completed his medical degree at the University of Maryland, residency and chief residency at Baylor College of Medicine, and fellowships in Gastroenterology and Therapeutic Endoscopy through Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining the University of Miami, he served in numerous leadership roles at Emory University, where he was recognized for excellence in clinical care, mentorship, and academic achievement. Dr. Willingham is a Fellow of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Editor-in-Chief of VideoGIE, and a past president of the Georgia Gastroenterologic and Endoscopic Society. He has led multiple NIH- and society-funded research studies, authored hundreds of peer-reviewed publications, and served as senior author on two FDA trials that advanced the treatment of pancreatitis and pancreatic necrosis.
