Biography
Dr. Fernando Corrales-Medina is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Miami-Miller School of Medicine, Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, where he serves as the medical director for the pediatric hemophilia program at the University’s Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center and director for the pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship program.
After attending medical school in Arequipa, Peru, he completed his general pediatrics training at Jackson Memorial/University of Miami in 2011, followed by his pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship at The University of Texas – MD Anderson Cancer Center, from which he graduated in 2014.
Dr. Corrales-Medina’s primary interests are von Willebrand disease (VWD), women with bleeding disorders, novel hemostatic therapies, and the use of point-of-care musculoskeletal ultrasound in hemophilia. He is the Principal Investigator for several pharmaceutical, as well as investigator-initiated, research studies. His work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including Blood Reviews, Haemophilia, Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Research and Practice in Hemostasis and Thrombosis, among others.
Dr. Corrales-Medina has received several research and teaching awards including the Micah Batchelor Scholar Award in 2017 and the 2018 American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network (ATHN) - DREAM Award. Currently, he is the director of the University of Miami-VWD Academy for Latin America and the co-principal investigator for the global initiative “VWDtest.com” and the ATHN Transcends-Hemophilia Natural History Study. -
