Biography
Felipe A. Medeiros, M.D., Ph.D. is the Rodgers Endowed Professor of Ophthalmology and Vice Chair of Research at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (BPEI). He is also the Director of the McKnight Vision Research Center at BPEI.
Dr. Medeiros’ research has span multiple domains, from the development of innovative methods and technologies for early diagnosis and detection of glaucoma progression, identification of biomarkers and risk factors for the disease, to the use of big data and artificial intelligence to improve screening, diagnosis and monitoring of eye diseases. He has published over 400 peer-reviewed scientific articles and 6 books in ophthalmology. His publications have received over 30,000 citations, for an h-index of 94. His research has been continuously funded by the National Eye Institute and many other public and private institutions.
Dr. Medeiros has been recently elected by The Ophthalmologist magazine as the 3rd most influential ophthalmologist in the world. He has given dozens of invited keynote lectures worldwide and has received many honors and awards, including the ARVO Cogan Award. He is an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the ARVO TVST journal, and an elected member of the prestigious Glaucoma Research Society. He has trained numerous students, fellows and postdocs from many parts of the world. -
