Biography
Farren Briggs, Ph.D., M.Sc., is an associate professor in the Division of Epidemiology and Population Health Sciences in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. A quantitative population health scientist, he integrates epidemiology, biostatistics, genetics and molecular data to investigate complex neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions.
Dr. Briggs’ research focuses on multiple sclerosis across the disease continuum. His work includes metabolomic profiling, biomarker discovery, modeling symptom patterns and identifying factors that influence quality of life. He is extending this research to Parkinson’s disease, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder and other complex demyelinating conditions.
As a collaborative epidemiologist and biostatistician, Dr. Briggs also contributes to observational and clinical studies involving epilepsy, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder. -

Research Interests
Research interest includes metabolomic profiling of complex diseases, identification of genetic and gene-environment patterns associated with disease risk and progression, and assessment of the burden of neurological diseases and related comorbidities. He also focuses on identifying subgroups of patients with shared symptom patterns over time and on biomarker discovery. -
