Biography
Dr. Fabio Paes earned his medical degree from the Federal University of Bahia (Universidade Federal da Bahia), Brazil, in 2005. He completed his internship and residency training in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and became board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology in 2013. Following residency, he joined a private multispecialty practice in South Florida, where he served as Medical Director of the Department of Radiology. In 2016, Dr. Paes earned an MBA in Healthcare Administration from Florida International University.
Dr. Paes joined the University of Miami in July 2016 as a full-time faculty member in the Emergency and Trauma Imaging Division. He is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Radiology and serves as Vice Chair for Quality, Patient Safety, and Compliance within the Department of Radiology. -

Teaching Interests
As a member of the core teaching faculty in the Emergency and Trauma Imaging Division, Dr. Paes is actively involved in the education and training of University of Miami medical students, radiology residents, and fellows. He also serves as Fellowship Director for the department’s four-year American Board of Radiology (ABR) Alternate Pathway Fellowship Program. -
Research Interests
Dr. Paes’ research interests include the utilization and appropriateness of imaging studies in emergency care, imaging evaluation of acute trauma patients, and the application of artificial intelligence algorithms for the detection and quantification of traumatic imaging findings. He is actively involved in national radiology societies, including the American Society of Emergency Radiology (ASER) and the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), where he contributes through committee service, educational activities, and presentations at national scientific meetings. His academic work has been presented at regional and national conferences, reflecting his commitment to advancing research, education, quality improvement, and patient safety in radiology. -
