Biography
Dr. Fabiano Nassar de Castro Cardoso is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology in the Musculoskeletal Imaging Division at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He joined the faculty in October 2022 following extensive international training and nearly two decades of clinical and academic experience in Brazil, Europe, and the United States.
Dr. Cardoso earned his medical degree from the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), where he also completed his residency in diagnostic radiology and a post-graduate clinical fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology. He subsequently pursued advanced research training in musculoskeletal radiology at the University of California San Diego and later completed a visiting fellowship at Université Catholique de Louvain in Brussels, Belgium. His training also includes multiple clinical fellowships at the University of Miami in nuclear medicine, general radiology, and musculoskeletal radiology, which he completed prior to joining the faculty.
Before relocating to Miami, Dr. Cardoso served as a staff musculoskeletal radiologist at several of São Paulo’s leading institutions, including Fleury Medicina Diagnostica, Diagnósticos da América (DASA), Beneficência Portuguesa Hospital, and Nova Medicina Diagnóstica. He also dedicated more than a decade as a volunteer instructor in musculoskeletal radiology at his alma mater, UNIFESP, where he developed a strong reputation as a committed educator and mentor.
A prolific scholar, Dr. Cardoso has co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and scientific abstracts, with his work appearing in Radiology, Radiographics, Radiologic Clinics of North America, European Radiology, and Current Oncology. His research spans a wide range of musculoskeletal topics, including orthopedic oncology, peripheral neuropathies, infection imaging, pediatric musculoskeletal disorders, and advanced MRI applications. He is also a contributor to leading radiology textbooks, including the Textbook of the Musculoskeletal System (Expert Radiology Series).
Dr. Cardoso’s contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous honors from the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), where he has received multiple Certificates of Merit and Cum Laude Awards for educational exhibits. His RSNA work has been pre-selected for RadioGraphics publications, highlighting his expertise in musculoskeletal imaging education. In 2022–2023, he was recognized by the University of Miami Department of Radiology as “Best Junior Attending” for his excellence in teaching and clinical service.
In addition to his academic and clinical work, Dr. Cardoso has served as a reviewer for leading journals including Radiology, Skeletal Radiology, Acta Radiologica, and the Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society, Paulista Society of Radiology, and the Brazilian College of Radiology.
Fluent in Portuguese, English, French, and Spanish, Dr. Cardoso brings an international perspective to patient care, research, and teaching. His clinical and academic pursuits reflect a career-long commitment to advancing musculoskeletal radiology through innovation, scholarship, and mentorship. -
