Ellen Koo, M.D., is a cornea and cataract specialist who has made significant contributions to the subspecialty field of cornea. She is committed to improving the field of cornea transplantation and eye banking and has pioneered innovations in the surgical techniques of Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) and Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty. Koo teaches the DMEK procedure to other surgeons and serves as a speaker and panelist at national meetings. She is past-president of the Fuchs Symposium committee—a committee made up of experts and thought leaders in Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy and serves on the board of directors of KeraLink. She is currently a principal investigator of a research study investigating the presence of the COVID-19 virus and associated clinical effects in patients undergoing anterior segment surgery.
