Biography
Dr. Elizabeth Pulgaron obtained her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Drexel University in 2009. Her graduate training was focused on pediatric psychology. Dr. Pulgaron completed her clinical internship at A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children. She then completed a National Institute of Health training fellowship in minority health disparities at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine. Throughout her training she has specialized in psychosocial behavioral interventions for children, specifically those with chronic illness such as sickle cell disease, persistent asthma, and diabetes and obesity. Dr. Pulgaron has spent a significant amount of her professional career working in the community. Schools, community centers, primary care offices, and summer camps have all been settings in which she has provided services and conducted clinical research.
Currently, Dr. Pulgaron is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine and the Director of Psychosocial Services for the John T. McDonald School Health Initiative. She provides direct clinical services, supervises social workers and psychology interns and fellows, and engages in clinical research using school health screening data. She advocates for students’ psychosocial functioning by serving on the Mental Health workgroup for the School Health Advisory Committee for Miami-Dade County Public Schools. During her career she has worked on various research protocols for families of children with chronic conditions, including multisite NIH funded longitudinal trials. She has extensive experience with pediatric patient populations, community-based research, and school based health centers. -
