Biography
Dr. Elisa Diaz is an Assistant Professor and licensed psychologist. She is living out her dream of being an educator to future psychologists and psychiatrists, while also providing psychotherapy to her community. She began working in the mental health field as a case manager to adults facing court dependency issues due to addiction. Through these experiences, her clinical interests in addiction and chronic illnesses developed. Dr. Diaz now focuses on helping individuals develop their optimal selves through focusing on the integration of one's physical and mental health.
Dr. Diaz is a proud ally to the LGBTQ+ community and works closely with this population in providing support and services. She has had the privilege of presenting at multiple conferences for the South Florida Southeast AIDS Education and Training Center. She has also served as an editorial contributor for the Miami Herald, highlighting the potential consequences of chronic stress and anxiety. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Dr. Diaz speaks English and Spanish, and is learning to speak fluent French and Haitian Creole. She loves traveling and watching sports events. Her idea of fun is going to a Miami Marlins game or visiting different places not visited yet. -

Teaching Interests
Dr. Diaz is passionate about teaching topics related to psychology, with a focus about different strategies that influence a growth mindset. Positive Psychology and Cognitive Behavior Therapy are among her favorite topics to teach. She has also taught courses, such as Human Growth and Development, Psychology of Personal Effectiveness, and Student Support Seminar at a local Miami college. Additionally, she teaches topics related to Cognitive Behavior Therapy, such as Panic Disorder through a CBT lens, to psychiatry residents. -
Research Interests
Dr. Diaz is a co-investigator in a grant-related project seeking support through The Health Resource and Services Administration, HIV/AIDS Bureau (HRSA). Her team is seeking to improve the system of connecting adults living with HIV and receiving care at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System Special Immunology Clinic. She is also interested in learning and researching about psychoneuroimmunology, which is the study of how one's mental health and mindset impact their immunological response and vice versa, as well as exploring cognitive impairments related to one's health. -
