Biography
Dr. Porter is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Her most recent assignments have been with Pediatrix, the largest employer of MFMs in the United States, serving as the medical director for Broward Health for MFM services, and clinical assignment in Fort Myers, FL. During the pandemic she worked with the Mobile County Health Department then transitioned her role to working with Pediatrix. She was a CLEAR site visitor with ACGME after serving at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as active-duty officer with the US Army. Dr. Porter was Professor at the Uniformed Service University, Program Director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, and Department Head of Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine. During her time at SAMMC, she received the APGO/CREOG National Educator Award and the recipient of the Army’s meritorious service, achievement, and commendation medals.
Dr. Porter has over 30 years of diverse experience in academic medicine, clinical medicine including private practice and leadership positions. Prior to her active-duty service, she served as Chair of two academic departments as well Program Directors- Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, and the University of South Alabama, Mobile, Alabama. She was President of Children’s and Women’s Hospital Medical Staff, Mobile, Alabama.
Dr. Porter earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Her residency was at Texas Tech University and her Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship training was at the University of South Alabama. She received her master’s in business administration from Auburn University. Her board certification is by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) for Obstetrics/Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine. She has served as a Board Examiner for ABOG. She has been a Certified Professional In-Patient Safety (CPPS) by the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety and Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) by the National Association for Healthcare Quality. She has successfully completed Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training and Certification.
She has published over sixty articles on high-risk topics and is the recipient of National March of Dimes grants and twenty-three other pharmaceutical and academic grants. She has developed collaborative relationships with CNMs and ARNPs and served as their medical director.
Her primary interests include medical complications in pregnancy including diabetes mellitus, hypertensive disease, autoimmune disease, other chronic medical diseases unique to persons during pregnancy, multiple gestations, and prenatal diagnosis with emphasis on patient safety and quality for all persons. -
