Biography
Dr. Takita is a Professor and Vice Chair of Education of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Sylvester C. Cancer Center, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She obtained her medical degree at University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and a Radiation Oncology Residency at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis. She joined University of Miami/Sylvester C. Cancer Center in 1999. Her clinical and research interests are in the management of breast cancer. Dr. Takita is the Co-Leader of the Breast Site Disease Group and the Leader of the Breast Proton Therapy Group at Sylvester C. Cancer Center. She is the local principal investigator of many clinical research protocols from NRG, ALLIANCE, NCI-C, including her own Phase I clinical trial Evaluating the Safety and Feasibility of Preoperative Stereotactic Ablative Breast Radiotherapy (SABER) for Selected Early Stage, Low Risk Breast Cancer. She will be the local PI for the Pragmatic Randomized Trial of Proton vs Photon Therapy for Patients with Non-Metastatic Breast Cancer: A Radiotherapy Comparative Effectiveness (RADCOMP) Consortium Trial. -

Breast cancer related to evaluation of predictors of locoregional recurrence, development of novel predictor models of radiation therapy outcomes and potential treatments to reduce radiation-induced skin toxicity. -
