Dr. Zhang began his medical education career in 1993 as an education specialist in the Office of Continuing Medical Education at Michael Reese Hospital/University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. In 1995, Dr. Zhang joined the UM faculty serving four years as a surgical educator in the Department of Surgery, where he helped to develop and implement the surgical residency education curriculum. Since 1999, he has been the Director of Program Evaluation in Medical Education at UMMSM. Dr. Zhang was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in the newly created UMMSM Department of Medical Education in 2020. He currently serves as co-chairs for the LACE and LCME Committees. His research interests are primarily in program evaluation and learner assessment.
