Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology
-
Biography
Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I studied in the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) – Rio Piedras Campus where I graduated Magna Cum Laude in Biology and Foreign languages. I completed my medical studies at UPR – Medical Sciences Campus and then did my internship in San Juan City Hospital – Transitional Year Program. In July 2014, I started my radiology residency training in the U.S. at University of Texas Health at San Antonio (UTHSA) where I successfully completed my American Board of Radiology (ABR) Exams. In July 2018, I had the honor to begin post-residency training at my first choice Breast Imaging fellowship program at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). I then decided to move closer to my friends and family, which led to accepting an appointment as Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology in the Breast Imaging Section as part of the University of Miami Medical Group (UMMG), currently providing care for patients at Sylvester Cancer Center, UM Hospital and Clinics, and Jackson Medical Center Breast Health Center. -

Teaching Interests
Over my years in training and radiology practice, I have honed in on my natural emphasis for all things related to patient experience, particularly anxious patients for their first procedure, procedural analgesia and the more demanding patients, which are skills that aim to develop in my fellows and residents. I also have a unique perspective on procedural efficiency, stereotactic biopsy technique, architectural distortion on breast tomosynthesis, screening performance and emerging breast imaging modalities. -
Research Interests
My current research focus aims to explore socioeconomic determinants of granulomatous mastitis (GM) in the Miami-Dade population, which captures a unique global multi-racial cohort with a wide range of income levels for a disease process that may be associated to poor women of non-caucasian origin. I am also researching the clinical and imaging predictors of malignancy in breast tomosynthesis-detected architectural distortion, whose usual management paradigm seems primed for disruption now that we are able to see a higher amount of them representing non-malignant findings after surgery. I am also uniquely interested in the following research topics: transgender breast care, value of imaging consultations from outside institutions, patient experience, social media as an education tool, trainee education in breast imaging and contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM). -
