Dr. Gomez is tenured Professor of Pathology and Vice Chair of Education at the University of Miami Miller School Of Medicine. Board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology, she has over 20 years of experience in diagnostic pathology with focused expertise in cytopathology and breast and head and neck surgical pathology. She currently serves as the Director of the ENT Pathology service. Her academic career has focused primarily on the education of peers, fellows, residents, and students by way of numerous local, national, and international programs, courses, and workshops in Pathology. Dr. Gomez’s research interests have centered on the use of immunohistochemistry and molecular biomarkers for breast and head and neck surgical pathology and cytopathology. Under her direction, the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Tissue bank, participated in several collaborations with the NIH Cancer Genome Atlas program, specifically including breast cancers, head and neck squamous cell cancers, lung cancers and bladder cancers. She also was Co-PI for the creation of the UM BioResource initiative which contributed to the success of the University of Miami’s Clinical and Translational Scientific Institute award by the NIH.
