Biography
Dr. Carmen Manresa is a double board-certified anesthesiologist and pediatric anesthesiologist, educator, and healthcare leader at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Jackson Health System. She serves as Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology, Associate Chief of the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology, Associate Program Director of the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship Program, and Director of the Pediatric Anesthesia Resident Rotation Curriculum. As an immigrant from Cuba, Dr. Manresa is dedicated to caring for underserved populations, addressing healthcare disparities, and advancing pediatric perioperative care through excellence in clinical practice, education, leadership, and mentorship. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and subsequently completed her Anesthesiology Residency and Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System. Following completion of her training, she joined the faculty and has remained committed to providing high quality, patient centered care while educating future generations of anesthesiologists and giving back to the South Florida community.Her clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of pediatric anesthesiology, including the anesthetic management of critically ill neonates in level IV NICU, infants, children, and adolescents undergoing complex surgical and diagnostic procedures. Dr. Manresa is proud to work closely with Miami Transplant Institute in providing anesthesia for solid organ transplantation, including liver and multivisceral transplantation. As a medical educator, Dr. Manresa is actively involved in graduate medical education and physician mentorship. She oversees educational programming and curriculum development for pediatric anesthesiology fellows and directs the pediatric anesthesia rotation for anesthesiology residents. In her role as Associate Program Director, she plays an integral part in fellowship recruitment, candidate evaluation, interviewing, and mentorship. She is also actively involved in anesthesiology residency recruitment and regularly participates in resident applicant interviews and selection processes.Dr. Manresa also has a commitment to patient safety and has led and participated in projects aimed at enhancing clinical workflows, standardizing patient care processes, and improving perioperative safety through use of electronic medical record tools and evidence based practice initiatives. Her academic and scholarly interests include pediatric perioperative medicine, patient safety, quality improvement, healthcare leadership, pharmaceutical and medication safety, and public health. She is particularly interested in the intersection of clinical medicine, healthcare systems, and population health, with a focus on developing strategies that improve outcomes for pediatric patients through education, research, and evidence based policy. She is an active member of American Society of Anesthesiologists, Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, and Society for Pediatric Anesthesia. She also serves on the Women’s Empowerment and Leadership Initiative Committee of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia, supporting the advancement, mentorship, and professional development of women in anesthesiology. Through her combined roles as clinician, educator, mentor, and leader, Dr. Manresa remains committed to advancing pediatric anesthesiology, improving patient outcomes, and fostering the development of future physician leaders in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine. -
