Biography
Dr. Caitlin Hester is a board-certified surgeon and specializes in minimally invasive and open operations for gastrointestinal malignancies with a focus on cancers of the liver, pancreas, bile duct, and stomach. She obtained her medical degree from Medical College of Georgia. She completed seven years of general surgery training at the University of Texas Southwestern and a two-year Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center. &
Her clinical research aimed at studying the genotypic and phenotypic profiles of pancreatic tumors and mechanisms that may contribute to treatment sensitivity. She plans to integrate response to therapy into clinical trial design in hopes of individualizing treatment plans for patients.
She has served as the Quality Improvement Fellow Officer at MD Anderson Cancer Center and as a representative on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She is passionate about DEI work and has dedicated a significant amount of time to community service efforts directed toward improving educational opportunities and early exposure to the field of medicine for underrepresented minorities.
She was awarded the Gary Purdue Chief Resident of the Year Award at the University of Texas Southwestern for exemplifying clinical excellence and dedication to patient care.
It is her greatest privilege to care for patients with cancer, and it is her mission to provide every opportunity to improve quality of life and longevity for her patients. -

Research Interests
Dr. Hester's Research Interests include clinical outcomes in HPB and GI malignancies. Particularly, she is interested in the genotypic and phenotypic profiles of patients with pancreas cancer. She hopes to design clinical trials that integrate dynamic metrics of response to neoadjuvant therapy. -
