Biography
Dr. Baumel is a Board certified Neurologist who specializes in the treatment of memory disorders. He received his MD from the University of Miami. He completed his Internship in Internal Medicine at University of Georgia and his Neurology Residency at University of Miami. Before joining the University of Miami, Department of Neurology in 2014, for more than two decades he was founder, medical director and co-CEO at the Baumel-Eisner Neuromedical Institute, a leading medical research center in South Florida that specialized in the research of diseases of the central nervous system. There he was the principal investigator in over 200 clinical drug trials of which more than 100 were studies in dementia. He has been dedicated to the study of new therapies for dementia for over two decades. -

Dr. Baumel's interests are in cognitive aging, frontal temporal dementia and Alzheimer's. -
Research Interests
Dr. Baumel is actively involved in both Investigator initiated as well as pharmaceutical clinical research for dementia therapy. In addition, along with my research colleagues, he conducts translational research in Frontotemporal and Alzheimer’s dementia. He is also interested in stem cells and their ability to possibly slow development of dementia's and Alzheimer's disease. -

To evaluate if adding one infusion of hMSCs to the treatment with standard of care (SOC) antipsychotic medications for patients with behavioral symptoms due to Alzheimer’s Disease, can reduce the incidence and/or severity of behavioral events at weeks 4, 8 and 12.To obtain preliminary information on whether concurrent treatment of patients diagnosed with agitation / aggression or other behavioral abnormalities due to AD, using one infusion of hMSCs and standard of care antipsychotics, lead to reducing the dose, or number of psychiatric medications being used.
