Dr. Olivera is a dual-trained neuropsychiatrist who is board-certified in both neurology and psychiatry. She completed fellowship training in neuroinfectious diseases at Columbia University. She earned her PhD in neuroscience at Emory University, where her research focused on neuroimmune interactions in major depression and the development of novel anti-inflammatory therapies. She subsequently completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, studying neuroimmune contributions to the psychiatric sequelae of traumatic brain injury in military personnel and professional athletes.
Dr. Olivera earned her medical degree from New York University Grossman School of Medicine and completed a combined residency in neurology and psychiatry at NYU Langone Health. During residency, she received specialized training in the evaluation and treatment of neurological and psychiatric symptoms associated with autoimmune encephalitis. Her clinical and research interests lie at the intersection of neurology, psychiatry, neuroimmunology, and infectious diseases of the nervous system.
