Teaching Interests
As former Spinal Cord Injury and PM&R residency program director, my current interests are to provide the wealth of experience gained to a new generation of learners. In the field of PM&R, evaluating and treating the patient holistically as a person within the framework of a team of providers working toward the same goal of delivering top academically minded patient-centered care is a goal worth teaching.
Providing this framework in the context of true adult learning, where I can teach enthusiastic learners to become independent in delivering excellent care and carrying on the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital reputation out into the world. Finally, reaching to medical school and teaching all students the value of PM&R in the continuum of medical care is a worthwhile endeavor. -
Research Interests
The main thrust of research I have participated in includes clinical studies involving persons with spinal cord injury, chronic spinal pain, and translational projects in conjunction with researchers at the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.
Within this framework, I have been author or co-author on 28 published original research manuscripts, 34 abstracts and posters presented at national meetings, 17 publications in electronic journals, and 12 book chapters. Many of the publications have been co-authored with various learners and PM&R residents, so the research serves as a vehicle for teaching aspiring academic physicians. -
