Dr. Abreu was born in 1973 in Florianopolis, a picturesque island in southern Brazil. After completing his medical education in Brazil, he moved to the United States, where he trained in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. In 2008, he joined the University of Miami as a faculty member. As the Medical Director of the university’s Sleep Center, he has been instrumental in developing strategies to deliver the best possible care to patients with sleep disorders. His research focuses on physician and patient well-being, sleep-disordered breathing, and hypersomnia-related disorders. In 2023, Dr. Abreu was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, where he continues to make a significant impact on the field of Sleep Medicine.
