Biography
Alex Pomerantz, MD, MPP, CAQSM is a board-certified sports medicine physician at the University of Miami Sports Medicine Institute. Dr. Pomerantz specializes in the non-operative management of musculoskeletal injuries, diagnostic and interventional ultrasound, regenerative medicine, and peripheral nerve blocks.
Committed to evidence-based care, he uses the latest research to help patients of all ages stay active. He offers regenerative medicine procedures, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), micro-fragmented adipose tissue (MFAT), and ultrasound-guided fenestrations. His expertise also includes treating frozen shoulder with minimally invasive, ultrasound-guided hydrodilatation procedures. This evidence-based procedure provides a non-surgical alternative to improve pain and restore function.
Dr. Pomerantz is a nationally recognized expert in golf medicine. In addition to his personal experiences as a collegiate golfer and NCAA Post-graduate Scholar, he has published research, taught physicians across the country, and earned certification from the Titleist Performance Institute.
Dr. Pomerantz is passionate about ultrasound, healthcare delivery design, and collegiate athletic medicine. He has published and presented research at the regional and national levels. His work has appeared in leading journals, including JAMA Network Open, Annals of Emergency Medicine, and PM&R. -

Teaching Interests
I'm passionate about teaching diagnostic and interventional sports medicine ultrasound. I also enjoy teaching emergency sideline management and general topics in pediatric and adult sports medicine clinical care. -
Research Interests
My research is focused in a few key domains. My primary research interest is health care delivery analysis. Leveraging my formal education and practical experiences in policy, I examine health services topics relevant to the practice of general and sports medicine including public insurance design, cost-efficiency analyses, and alternative payment model investigations. Most of my work utilizes large claims database analysis. My additional research interests include adhesive capsulitis management, golf medicine, and general sports medicine education. -
