Teaching Interests
I am a dedicated professor to public health pedagogy and have made significant contributions to training and education on many fronts at the University of Miami. In the Department of Public Health Sciences in the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami, I teach three courses annually: two core courses in the MD-MPH program (EPH651: Research Methods and EPH641: Integrated Aspects of Environmental Health) and an elective graduate MPH course (EPH 643: Occupational Health). I also co-teach an inter-disciplinary hospital course (EPH663) on the Coral Gables campus to students from various University-wide programs (business, engineering, law, medicine, public health, architecture).
I also regularly guest lecture in the Physical Therapy Program (PTS544 Medical Pathology Seminar II) on the topic of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM). In addition to my university teaching and training efforts, I also serve as an instructor for the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the national public health board review course.
In 2020, I was awarded the George Paff Teaching Award for Outstanding Public Health Education by the UM MD-MPH Program. In 2021, I was awarded the Senior Educator Award from the Dean of the Miller School of Medicine. Most recently, I was awarded the 2023 Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2024 Faculty of the Year award in the UM Department of Public Health Sciences. -
