Biography
Dr. Akarshan Monga joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Radiology as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology in July 2024. He is a fellowship-trained neuroradiologist with expertise in advanced brain, spine, and head and neck imaging.
Dr. Monga earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Miami before completing his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Nova Southeastern University’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. He went on to complete an internal medicine preliminary year at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, followed by a diagnostic radiology residency at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University, where he served in leadership roles including Wellness Representative, Program Librarian, and founder of a Big Sibling–Little Sibling mentorship program. He then pursued fellowship training in diagnostic neuroradiology at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor.
An active researcher, Dr. Monga has published peer-reviewed work in Applied Radiology, The Journal of Emergency Medicine, and Skeletal Radiology. His projects have included studies on MRI safety training for residents, imaging characteristics of electric scooter injuries, and musculoskeletal tumor imaging. He has also co-authored multiple case reports and presented posters at national and international conferences, receiving recognition such as the Applied Radiology “Leaders on the Horizon” Research Award, the Dr. Kenneth Burnell Student Research Award, and the Blue Ribbon Research Fellowship.
In addition to his scholarly contributions, Dr. Monga is passionate about medical education and mentorship. During his residency, he organized educational activities for medical students, prepared lectures, and worked closely with residents to enhance academic and wellness initiatives. His commitment to resident education and program development reflects his dedication to fostering a supportive and innovative learning environment.
Dr. Monga is board-eligible in diagnostic radiology and an active member of several professional organizations, including the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), American College of Radiology (ACR), American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR), and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI).
Fluent in English and Hindi, Dr. Monga also enjoys golf, chess, video games, jogging, and building computers in his free time. His clinical expertise, research accomplishments, and dedication to teaching make him a valuable member of the University of Miami Department of Radiology. -
