Biography
Dr. Ahmet Turan Ilica joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Radiology in January 2024 and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Clinical Radiology. He is a board-certified radiologist with subspecialty expertise in neuroradiology, neuro-oncology, and nuclear oncology imaging.
Dr. Ilica earned his medical degree from Gulhane Military Medical School in Ankara, Turkey, where he also completed his radiology residency. He went on to pursue advanced subspecialty training through multiple fellowships, including Neuroradiology Research at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Neuro-Oncology Imaging at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Nuclear Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Before joining the University of Miami, Dr. Ilica served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology at Weill Cornell Medical College, following an appointment as Instructor in Radiology. His earlier career also includes service as a physician in the Turkish Army Medical Corps, where he was recognized for outstanding service.
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Ilica has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and educational exhibits. His scholarly work spans advanced neuroimaging, brain metastases, neuro-oncology, and imaging of head and neck disease. He has contributed to leading journals such as Radiology, Clinical Imaging, Neuroimaging Clinics of North America, and the American Journal of Roentgenology. His expertise has been recognized through invited lectures at national and international meetings, including the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR), and the European Society of Neuroradiology.
Dr. Ilica is also deeply committed to education, having delivered resident and fellow lectures in neuroradiology and skull base imaging at institutions including Weill Cornell, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Gulhane Medical School. He has mentored numerous trainees who have gone on to successful academic careers. His teaching emphasizes clinical excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the integration of advanced imaging techniques into patient care.
He holds memberships in multiple professional societies, including the Turkish Society of Radiology and the European Society of Head and Neck Radiology. His academic achievements have been recognized through awards such as the RSNA Certificate of Merit, Best Oral Presentation at the Turkish National Radiology Congress, and the Turkish Army Service Award.
