Overview

This is a focused 2-week virtual elective, which will teach the senior medical student diagnostic radiology concepts, knowledge, and interpretation through small group, online image interpretation sessions, on-line resources for UM students and visiting students participate in resident/fellow level daily conferences.

The small group sessions will include but are not limited to: real time image read outs and interpretation with radiology residents, fellows and attending’s, imaging finding algorithms and differentials, and management guidelines.

The student will be expected to choose one radiology subspecialty to focus on for the 2-week session, or choose 2 subspecialties, spending one week in each, over the 2-week session.

For visiting students, this elective is only open to 4th year students applying to diagnostic radiology. Course discussions will be more advanced and similar to those at 1st year radiology level. Enrollment applications through University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s VSAS/VSLO portal.

This elective is meant to stimulate student’s intellectual curiosity and continued learning in diagnostic radiology, through close virtual interaction with UM and JMH’s diagnostic radiology residents, faculty, and clerkship/residency leadership.

Course Design

The course consists of daily required morning image interpretation sessions rotating through the subspecialties of Radiology as well as afternoon small group interactive sessions for case solving, based on the assigned on-line video tutorials. There will be an assigned instructor which will be an attending, fellow, or senior resident.  Attendance is mandatory and will be recorded. The students will be assessed for performance during these sessions. The students are also invited to attend other departmental and sectional conferences. A final exam will be given on the last day of the course.
