The U Summer of Advanced Research (U SOAR) award is designed to encourage high quality summer research for first year NextGenMD students at the University of Miami (UM) Miller School of Medicine (MSOM). Basic and/or translational biomedical science research is strongly encouraged. If you are interested in exploring the world of research/scholarly work in general and maybe even becoming a physician scientist, a small but influential group that continues to advance medicine by making scientific discoveries in the laboratory and translating them to the clinic, then the U SOAR program is particularly right for you.

In order to help facilitate this research, a stipend of $4,000, to be included in the financial aid package, will be provided to support an 8-week, fulltime (>30 hours per week) summer research program. Application is open to all first year NextGenMD students except MD/PhD. To qualify for U SOAR, you should have already identified a faculty mentor and a research project; please state them in the application as well as in the one-page proposal.

At the end of the program, you will need to submit a brief progress report and participate in a poster symposium where you will have the opportunity to engage/network with your peers, share your research, as well as build upon your presentation skills.
