The U Summer of Advanced Research (USOAR) award is designed to encourage high quality summer research for first year NextGenMD students at the University of Miami (UM) Miller School of Medicine (MSOM). Basic and/or translational biomedical science research is strongly encouraged. If you are interested in exploring the world of research/scholarly work in general and maybe even becoming a physician scientist, a small but influential group that continues to advance medicine by making scientific discoveries in the laboratory and translating them to the clinic, then the USOAR program is particularly right for you.

Students selected for the USOAR award will  have to commit to conduct an 8-week, fulltime (>30 hours per week) summer research program and will receive  a stipend of $4,000, to be included in the financial aid package. Application is open to all first year NextGenMD students except MD/PhD. To qualify for USOAR, students should have already identified a faculty mentor and a research project and need to submit an application that includes a one-page proposal at the link below (will open in April and close mid-May). Applications will be reviewed by a committee that includes representative faculty members of UM MSOM.

At the end of the program, all USOAR students need to submit a brief progress report and participate in a poster symposium, where they will have the opportunity to share their research results and strengthen their presentation skills while engaging/networking with others. Previous research projects conducted by past USOAR cohorts, can be accessed at this link.
