Basic Science Research

Improving our understanding through basic research

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine researchers in basic science and clinical departments are engaged in a wide range of basic science research, studying cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology and genetics in a wide range of organisms from bacteria to human.

Basic science research leads to scientific discovery, the process or product of successful scientific inquiry. Basic science includes a wide range of scientific activities from observation to laboratory experiments to data mining. Our MSOM discovery scientists work collaboratively to propel innovation, answer questions and uncover the mysteries of biomedical science.

UM offers a collaborative research environment where scientists at all levels work together to address scientific problems. The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine offers a variety of core and shared facilities, internal awards to facilitate externally funded grants, research education & training, career development, and grant writing assistance among many other services to foster the success of its investigators.

Research Development & Support

RDS is a shared-services unit, which provides support on sponsored projects to assigned departments and faculty at the Miller School of Medicine. RDS is based in the Office of the Executive Dean for Research (EDR).
