Specific Aims - A concise statement of the specific aims of the proposed research.
Background - An overview of the research field with emphasis on significance of the proposed work. Cite your contributions to the field where relevant. Briefly discuss future applications of the technology.
Preliminary Results - Summarize preliminary results related to this proposal and their significance. Under what conditions was the research conducted; e.g., was the work done under GLP guidelines?
Research Plan - Concisely describe the approach to be taken to achieve the stated aims of the research. Include key areas where WHCC resources will be essential to progress.
Competition and Path to Commercialization - Compare the envisaged product resulting from this project to options currently available or under development by your research peers. Will this research lead to new products or to improvements of existing products? Specifically detail how this research may lead to a phase I clinical trial within 3-5 years or a marketable device within 5 years; i.e., how do you envision the path to commercialization? What key elements must be included to ensure commercial potential and regulatory approval? Please contact Dr. Bin Yan if you need assistance with this section.
Schedule w/ milestones - A chart of the key events or milestones you expect to achieve and when you expect to achieve them.
Project Management - Provide a description of key personnel and their responsibilities. Describe the resources needed to move the project forward; in other words, articulate the need for additional personnel, supplies, regulatory expertise, etc. to make the work progress in a timely fashion.
Project Budget - Annual direct costs, including personnel, supplies, animals, etc. Provide details regarding the PI's funding for this project, and if matching funds are being sought from the Center, provide a breakdown of what the request is. Please use the attached template; contact Dr. Bin Yan to discuss in detail prior to submission. Travel and administrative costs will not be supported.
Current sources of support - NIH biosketch for PI and key personnel (4 page format). Indicate whether or not support for this project is being sought elsewhere.
Intellectual Property Status - A description of any relevant intellectual property including patents, patent applications, invention disclosures, copyrights, know-how, etc. owned by the investigator or institution. Are there existing patents that the PI is aware of that could have an impact on this project? Does the PI have existing corporate relationships pertinent to this project? Has the IP already been licensed or encumbered, e.g., by an industry sponsored research agreement?
Approvals - Provide approval date and number of all human subjects or animal protocols. For human subjects, include IRB and IND numbers. If the project is selected for entry into the Center, hard copies of approval letters will be required prior to initiation of work.
