Dr. Jeffery M Vance , M.D., Ph.D., is the principal investigator of the Udall Center at the Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami (UM). Now in its 10th year, the Center is located in the University’s Hussman Institute for Human Genomics (HIHG). The Udall center moved in 2007 from Duke University to the UM when three of its principal investigators (Vance, Martin and Scott) moved to UM. The focus of the center remains the identification of genes and the mechanisms that lead to the development of Parkinson’s disease (PD).
The move enhanced and strengthened the current Udall project providing new collaborators with valuable expertise. Personnel added to the Center include Dr. Deborah Mash, Professor of Neurology, who runs the University of Miami Brain Bank and Dr. Carlos Singer, head of the Movement Disorders Clinic at UM. Dr. Carlos Morales, Professor of Neurology, an internationally known mitochondrial expert, is a consultant on Project 3. Dr. Stephan Züchner, Associate Professor for Human Genomics and Neurology, UM, joined the Udall Center as PI of the Molecular Genetics and Neuropathology Core. Dr. Gaofeng Wang, Assistant Professor of Human Genetics, UM, joined Project 2 and Dr. Liyong Wang Project 3.
