UM Cardiovascular Division Presents Distinguished Faculty and Fellow Awards
The Cardiovascular Division honored four distinguished faculty and fellows at its June 8 Cardiovascular Fellows’ Graduation Ceremony at the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay.
Mauricio G. Cohen, M.D., associate professor of medicine and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at University of Miami Hospital, received the Robert J. Myerburg Outstanding Academic Cardiology Faculty Award for his excellence in education, clinical care and research.
“Working at the University of Miami has been a tremendous and fulfilling journey,” said Cohen, who was caught by surprise when he heard his name called for the award. “We have been able to help patients from all over Florida thanks to treatments that are only offered at the University of Miami.”
At the academic level, Cohen said he had a great experience working with such “terrific and hard-working fellows and colleagues.”
“I’m proud to say that our training program is well recognized nationally,” he said. “It is nice to see that all our hard work for the past five years did not go unnoticed.”
The Division also presented the Thomas A. Curtis Outstanding Cardiovascular Fellow Award to Rosario Antonio Colombo, M.D., for his superior performance as a cardiovascular disease fellow. Also honored were Margarita Perez Caminero, M.D., who received the Outstanding Subspecialty Fellow Award, and Abdulla Damluji, M.D., M.P.H., who received the Outstanding Research Fellow Award.
“The end-of-the-year award ceremony has become a tradition for the Cardiovascular Division, and it is a great venue to honor our trainees and faculty who have distinguished themselves for their outstanding work,” said Mauro Moscucci, M.D., M.B.A., Chief of the Cardiovascular Division. “In particular, the Robert J. Myerburg Outstanding Academic Cardiology Faculty Award recognizes faculty who have become leaders in the critical missions of our institution — excellence in clinical care, research and education.
“It was a pleasure to present this year’s award to Dr. Mauricio Cohen, who has distinguished himself for his outstanding skills not only within our institution, but also at a national and international level,” Moscucci added. “It has been a real privilege to work with such an outstanding group of faculty and trainees.”
