UHealth Joins in Celebrating National Healthcare Quality Week

UHealth is proudly joining the National Association for Healthcare Quality and other healthcare facilities around the nation in celebrating National Healthcare Quality Week, October 19-25.

During that week, there will be various events focusing on the Institute of Medicine’s Six Characteristics of High-Quality Health Care: Safe, Effective, Patient-centered, Timely, Efficient and Equitable.

To promote the goal of patient-centered care, UHealth has designated Tuesday, October 21, as Patient Experience Day, with events dedicated to educating and inspiring UHealth employees, including physicians, nurses, health system administrators and other frontline care givers. A featured activity will be UHealth’s first Patient Experience Grand Rounds, with keynote speaker Thomas H. Lee, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for Press Ganey Associates, who will be addressing the topic, “Bringing Caring Back into Healthcare.”

Dr. Lee is a Harvard professor, former CEO of Partners Healthcare’s 1,200-physician ambulatory practice, and an acknowledged expert in the transformation of healthcare on the national level, with multiple publications spanning the New England Journal of Medicine to the Harvard Business Review. His recruitment in 2013 to Press Ganey has only accelerated his stature as one of the leading voices for improving the patient experience as a central means to improving health outcomes, and its central role in the coming healthcare marketplace.

Clinical chairs, hospital, practice and health system leaders will be invited to participate in a seminar with Dr. Lee early on the morning of the 21st, before the start of the clinical day. Dr. Lee will also give a Grand Rounds seminar at University of Miami Hospital from 10 to 11 a.m. Attendance is mandatory for all patient and visitor services personnel, and safety and quality personnel across the system. It is strongly encouraged for all clinic service ambassadors, and all other interested administrative staff or caregivers who can attend will be heartily welcomed.

Press Ganey Patient Experience Advisor Julie Classen will be running afternoon sessions designed for nursing and administrative leaders/managers, as well as frontline staff. Classen will lead three sessions, one at each hospital facility, tailored to the patients being served there.
