UHealth Executives Serve as Conference Reviewers at Elite Health Care Roundtable

Two executives from UHealth – the University of Miami Health System, Michael Barron, M.D., FAHA, Chief Medical Officer, and Nazanin Tondravi, J.D., M.P.H., Associate Director for Regulatory Compliance, served as conference reviewers at Becker’s Hospital Review’s 5th Annual CEO + CFO Roundtable in Chicago.

The conference, sponsored by the hospital industry publication, brought together more than 1,000 health care professionals from across the United States to discuss strategy, leadership, physician arrangements, quality initiatives, payment system changes, health care reform and other topics of interest and concern. In their roles as reviewers, Barron and Tondravi were charged with evaluating the relevance and quality of meeting sessions within their disciplines and interests.

“This conference was valuable because it put us in contact with the best and brightest in health care,” said Barron, who is also professor of clinical anesthesiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. “There is a lot happening in health care today, and the only real way to keep up with the pace of change is to have real-time access to industry thought leaders.”

Barron said the two were able to discuss ideas and issues with executives from other large hospital systems and academic medical centers, and test some innovative communication technology platforms at the November event.

“The Becker’s conferences always have an impressive gathering of some of the most knowledgeable and insightful people in our industry,” said Tondravi, “and it was extremely helpful to be briefed on the most pressing issues in health care, such as reimbursement changes, valuation, MACRA and innovative platforms such as athenahealth.”

She is also enthusiastic about the many new ideas she brought back from the conference.

“We returned with a great deal of useful information on physician compensation trends, regulatory and legal developments, as well as process improvement strategies, which I look forward to sharing with our faculty.”

The two have also been invited to participate in Becker’s Hospital Review’s 8th Annual Meeting, which takes place April 17-20.
