Sylvester and UHealth Physicians and Executive Leaders Recognized by Legacy Magazine

Several physicians and executive leaders with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and UHealth – the University of Miami Health System have been named as South Florida’s Top Black Health Care Professionals of 2015 by Legacy Magazine.

The honorees include Giovana R. Thomas, M.D., a head and neck cancer surgeon at Sylvester and associate professor of otolaryngology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine; James M. Trice III, M.D., assistant professor of medicine; Shyroll Morris, M.B.A., M.P.H., Chief Satellite Operations Officer at Sylvester and UHealth; and Gail Bouie Ward, M.S., Executive Director of Sylvester at Plantation.

“I am very grateful to Legacy Magazine for the nomination and distinction. I am humbled and honored to receive this recognition,” said Thomas, who joined UM 15 years ago. “I am proud to be able to provide high-quality surgical care to all people of South Florida and elsewhere through Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at UHealth.”

Distributed by the Miami Herald, Legacy Magazine featured the 2015 honorees in the Miami Herald Business Monday section on October 19. This year’s group joins select UM professionals and alumni who have been recognized by the magazine over the years. The honorees will be officially recognized at a November 14 award luncheon in Fort Lauderdale.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to have been nominated and blessed to receive this recognition,” said Bouie. “Without a doubt, I am joining an honor roll of leaders who are deserving and well respected for their accomplishments.”

Honorees represent diverse fields and were selected for having made a significant impact not only in their professional career, but also in the local community.

“It’s truly an honor to be selected by Legacy Magazine as a leader in health care,” said Morris. “I was very fortunate to have great mentorship and leadership at UM that promotes growth and development of our leaders.”

Established in 2004, Legacy Magazine is a news and business publication serving Florida’s black professional community.
