Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., Addresses Miami Chamber of Commerce
Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., director of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, was the keynote speaker at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce monthly trustee luncheon, August 1 at Jungle Island.
Speaking before 350 business professionals and community leaders, Nimer, a nationally renowned leader in leukemia research, talked about his background and offered insights into the unique opportunity that prompted him to leave Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York to come to South Florida and lead Sylvester. Nimer shared his vision for the cancer center and listed several of the new cancer experts who have been recruited to work alongside the stellar team of physicians and scientists already in place. Together with a promise to conduct innovative research at Sylvester, he told the crowd, “At Sylvester, we will stand for quality care, which means not only delivering the best possible care, but doing it in a compassionate way, with a specific focus on patient comfort and privacy.”
Nimer also encouraged the crowd to participate in the Dolphins Cycling Challenge — a two-day, 30- to 170-mile bike ride November 3-4, which raises money for Sylvester. Mike Dee, CEO of the Miami Dolphins, also spoke and echoed the need for the community to support the cancer center. To learn more about the different rides and ways to get involved, visit ridedcc.com.
