School-Based Clinic Initiative Stands Up for Health and Against Crime at Local Festival

The Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation School Health Initiative provided basic health screenings and education to hundreds of children and their families who attended the City of North Miami Police Department’s FACT (Families Against Crime Together) Festival at North Miami Senior High School on April 28.

“This was another great opportunity for us to engage with the community and let them know about the free services we provide,” said M. Denise Simmons, program manager for the school health initiative. “And helping the City of North Miami spread the word that violence is not the solution is a message we are glad to share.”

The school health initiative, a partnership between the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation and the Miller School Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, offers free health care to children in eight Miami-Dade County public schools.
