Four UM Employees Are Ready to Lead
Four University of Miami employees were honored recently as the first graduating class of the UM Leadership Academy’s Emerging Leader Program, which prepares high-performing employees for the transition to leadership roles. The graduates are Bernice “Jill” Baron, senior auditor in the Department of Internal Audit; Noriece Price, human resources generalist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences; Audrey McKenzie, a data entry clerk in the Department of Urology; and Issa Rodriguez, senior patient account representative in the Department of Surgery.
Participants, who are accepted into the program through recommendations from their supervisors, must master the eight leadership competencies of the Leadership Academy, complete a rigorous curriculum that includes practice labs, case studies, and collaboration assignments, and compile an e-portfolio that must be approved by a panel of managers. As participants incorporate their newly learned skills into the workplace, they receive coaching and support from their supervisors.
The Leadership Academy Emerging Leader program is offered through the Office of Workforce Engagement and Development. For more information on the program or any of the office’s other competency-based programs, please call 305-243-3090.
