Miller School Psychiatry Chair Heads Efforts to Raise Suicide Awareness and Prevention

The rise in the suicide rate in recent years is a continuous reminder that prevention is paramount. In response, the Miller School will partner with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for the 2010 Miami-Dade County Out of the Darkness 5K walk on Sunday, October 24, where Charles Nemeroff, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, and Dean Pascal J. Goldschmidt, M.D., will lead efforts to increase awareness, raise funds and support suicide prevention.

By walking, you will join thousands of other walkers nationwide to support vital research and education programs to prevent suicide and save lives, increase national awareness about depression and suicide and provide support for survivors of suicide loss.

The walk will be held on the University of Miami’s Coral Gables campus at 10 a.m. Join a UM team today on the Miami-Dade County Out of the Darkness walk site.
