Sylvester Researchers Shine at Cancer Conference
It was on June 7 that Helen Peck, M.A., executive director of clinical research services at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, received the exciting news that she was being invited to make an oral presentation at the 9th Annual Clinical Research Meeting of the Association of American Cancer Institutes in Chicago.
Peck’s abstract, “Implementing a Research Nurse Model for the Clinical Trials Office,” detailed the findings of research she conducted while at Karmanos Cancer Institute at Wayne State University prior to joining Sylvester in early 2016. The invitation to speak came because the conference organizers judged her abstract to be one of the top three of the 40 submitted for presentation consideration.
Other researchers from Sylvester joining Peck at the conference, which was held July 12-13, were Yvonne Dinh, director of phase 1 research support, Rosa Hsieh, M.S., manager of research support, Andrew Nilson, senior manager of research support, and Simmy Thompson, M.P.H., director of research committees.
The Sylvester researchers presented Peck’s abstract in poster form along with two additional posters: “Improving Activation Times via Automation and Centralization” and “Minimizing Information Redundancy & Improving Quality with Centralized Regulatory Document Management” (a collaboration with Complion, Inc.).
