Miller School Pediatric Practice Manager Honored with Patriotic Employer Award
Alina Riesgo, Practice Manager in the Miller School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics, was honored recently with the Patriotic Employer Award for supporting a staff nurse serving in the U.S. Army Reserve. Daniel Lopez, LPN, a corporal in the Reserve, nominated Riesgo for the award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense program that promotes cooperation and understanding with civilian employers.
“We are very supportive of Danny’s contributions, as well as those of the many other men and women who serve our country in the military,” said Riesgo, who received the award April 29 in a ceremony in the auditorium of the University of Miami’s Mailman Center for Child Development. “We stay in close touch with Danny, before, during and after his Reserve assignments.”
Lopez is currently serving in Africa as a nurse for other Reserve members in the field. He joined UM two years ago and is now the lead nurse for the seven-person pediatric team at the Mailman Center.
“Our team is very supportive of each other, and we take wonderful care of our patients and their families,” Riesgo said.
The Patriotic Employer Award recognizes supervisors and bosses who provide a high level of support to an individual member of the Guard or Reserve. Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve was established in 1972 and has fostered a culture in which employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve.
