Miller School Opens New Lactation Room for Nursing Mothers

In its continuing effort to foster a family-friendly environment, the Miller School of Medicine has opened a fifth dedicated lactation room to support nursing mothers. It is located on the second floor of University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, 1475 N.W. 12th Avenue, Room 1405. Faculty, staff and students who need a private place to express milk may reserve space on a first-come, first-served basis by completing a Nursing Mother Accommodation Request Form.

UM supports nursing mothers by providing them reasonable break time to express breast milk for a year after their child’s birth. Having a lactation room supports the nutritional needs of newborn babies and strengthens the bond between mother and baby. Nursing mothers will be able to successfully balance their important priorities of family and work through on-site lactation support. Supervisors and coworkers are urged to lend their support by allowing nursing mothers to take time to use the facility.

For a list of guidelines and full list of other lactation rooms across all of our campuses, please review the Nursing Mothers Program web page. For general questions about the program, please contact the Office of Workplace Equity and Performance at 305-243-9360 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
