International Neonatologists Attend “Miami Neonatology 2013”
The Division of Neonatology welcomed more than 1,000 neonatal specialists from 49 countries November 13–16 for its 37th annual international conference, “Miami Neonatology 2013,” a three-day conference and one-day workshop that examined the newest developments and best practices in the field of neonatology. The course, which offered simultaneous Spanish translation and featured more than 20 commercial exhibitors, was held at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.
Program directors Eduardo Bancalari, M.D., professor of pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology, and Charles R. Bauer, M.D., professor of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychology, joined 13 guest speakers from across the U.S. and the world to discuss neonatal ventilation and respiratory care, preventing gastrointestinal disease, optimizing newborn nutrition, cardiac physiology, ethics, neurologic insults, potential for the use of stem cell therapy, and other topics critical to the unique needs of premature and very low birth weight infants.
The conference was dedicated to the memory of Cleide Suguihara, M.D., Ph.D., a beloved member of the Miller School faculty until her death early this year. An annual reunion for graduates and current fellows of the Neonatology Program at Holtz Children’s Hospital at UM/Jackson Memorial Hospital was also discussed.
“Miami Neonatology 2014” will take place November 12-15, 2014, at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.
