Holtz Children’s Hospital Ranks among the Nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals
Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is among the nation’s best children’s hospitals, according to the U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals rankings. Published online today, the rankings feature the top 50 hospitals in each of 10 pediatric specialties.
Holtz Children’s is ranked in three specialties this year: 20th in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology; 49th in pediatric gastroenterology and GI surgery, and 49th in pediatric nephrology.
“We are thrilled that these programs are recognized as being among the best on a national platform,” said Henri R. Ford, M.D., M.H.A., dean and chief academic officer of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. “Combining the expertise of UHealth physicians with the exceptional nursing and support staff at Jackson continues to lead to excellent care for our entire community.”
U.S. News introduced the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of children with rare or life-threatening illnesses find the best medical care available. The rankings are the most comprehensive source of quality-related information on U.S. pediatric hospitals.
“Holtz Children’s Hospital is honored to receive this recognition for delivering the best patient care to the most critically ill children in South Florida and around the world,” said Carlos A. Migoya, president and CEO of Jackson Health System. “Our medical team — from the physicians and surgeons to the nurses and therapists — pride themselves on being experts in their field, and this national ranking is a testament to the high-quality care they deliver every day.”
The U.S. News Best Children’s Hospitals rankings rely on clinical data and on an annual survey of pediatric specialists. The rankings methodology factors in patient outcomes, such as mortality and infection rates, as well as available clinical resources and compliance with best practices.
“The Best Children’s Hospitals rankings were designed to help provide families seeking the best medical care for their sick child with access to the most comprehensive data available,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “The rankings, coupled with guidance from pediatricians, help families make better-informed decisions about where to find high-quality, compassionate care for their children when they need it most.”
This year’s rankings will be published in the U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals 2020” guidebook, available in stores mid-September.
