Falcone Shines in “Best of Miami” Health and Medicine Spotlight
Steven Falcone, M.D., M.B.A., Executive Dean for Clinical Affairs and CEO of the UHealth Clinical Practice, was honored in the Health and Medicine section of the “Best of Miami 2014” supplement in the June 6 issue of Miami Today. He was recognized for the strong reputation he has built as both a physician and a leader on the business side of healthcare.
Jackson Health System CEO Carlos Migoya nominated Falcone, who is also Chief Executive of the University of Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital. “Steve Falcone distinguishes himself as a leader, as a partner and as a thoughtful defender of world-class health care for everyone in Miami-Dade County,” Migoya said. “The field of medicine and the business of hospitals are changing like a thrill ride: fast, unpredictable and sometimes scary. Dr. Falcone is the calm eye in that storm’s center.”
Falcone, professor of radiology, neurological surgery and ophthalmology, was also praised for helping Jackson and UM focus on their shared community mission. He was credited for his role in making Miami a global center for specialized care in trauma, neurosurgery, pediatrics and organ transplant.
“In every sense of the word, we are a healthier place because of Steve’s contributions,” said Migoya.
The “Best of Miami” supplement focuses on individuals, companies and organizations that make special efforts to improve the community they work in and serve.
Don Steigman, executive vice president and COO of Jackson Health System, was also featured. He was credited for his key role in Jackson’s dramatic financial turnaround. Steigman was nominated by Joe Natoli, UM’s Senior Vice President for Business and Finance and Chief Financial Officer, and interim Chief Operating Officer of the Miller School and UHealth.
