Elissa Kyrola Named Clinical Athletic Trainer of the Year
The Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association (SEATA) named Elissa Kyrola, who works with UHealth Sports Medicine at University of Miami Hospital, Clinical Athletic Trainer of the Year at its 41st Annual Clinical Symposium and Members Meeting.
SEATA annually recognizes individuals for their outstanding contribution to the profession as a SEATA member. Kyrola was nominated by her colleague, Kari Riddle, an athletic trainer at UHealth Sports Medicine-Plantation.
“I am pleased to receive this award, not only because it recognizes my efforts here at UHealth Sports Medicine, but also because it acknowledges the work of athletic trainers in physician practices,” said Kyrola. “I was also honored to be nominated by Kari, who is one of my mentors.”
Athletic trainers are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventive services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. At UHealth Sports Medicine, the athletic trainers help move patients efficiently through the appointment, evaluation and treatment process. They take patient histories, perform orthopedic evaluations, document in the electronic medical record, and provide instruction on exercise prescriptions, rehabilitation and general patient education.
“I enjoy working with physicians and other health care professionals with the common goal of getting our patients back in the game,” said Kyrola.
