Dr. Dipen J. Parekh Receives British ‘Best Robotics Paper’ Prize
Dipen J. Parekh, M.D., a member of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology and Director of Robotic Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, was in London on Sunday, October 4, where he received the BJU International – Vattikuti Foundation Robotics Prize. The award was given to honor a paper he and colleagues published in 2014.
“The BJUI – Vattikuti Foundation Robotics prize was awarded in 2015 to the best robotics paper published in BJUI,” said Scott Millar, Managing Editor at BJUI Journal. “The winning paper was selected from a shortlist by a panel of five expert judges who were asked to consider the originality of the research and its potential impact on clinical practice. After two rounds of voting, the paper on which Dr. Parekh was lead author was chosen as the worthy winner.”
The prize is a recognition of Parekh’s publication titled “Health-related quality of life from a prospective randomized clinical trial of robot-assisted laparoscopic vs. open radical cystectomy.”
“I am thankful for this recognition by the BJUI Journal and Vattikuti Foundation,” said. Parekh, who holds the Victor A. Politano Endowed Chair in Urology. “It speaks to the quality of the robotic surgery we conduct here at Sylvester and UHealth, as well as the research my colleagues and I do in the field. It is important that we subject any new technology in medicine to scientific rigor before accepting it as a standard of care.”
