DOCS Program Promotes Wellness at First Dean’s Walk/Run
With the first Mitchell Wolfson Sr. Department of Community Service (DOCS) health fair of the year under its belt, the student-run organization introduced a wellness event of another kind: the first Dean’s Walk/Run.
Miller School Dean Pascal J. Goldschmidt, M.D., who is also Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and CEO of UHealth, led nearly 100 students, faculty, administrators and community members at the October 13 fundraiser, a three-mile walk/run held on the Coral Gables campus to promote wellness and health awareness.
“Supporting DOCS is key to our success, and this run will bring resources that will grow year after year,” Dean Goldschmidt said.
The Dean also thanked student organizers Danielle Bodzin, Stefania Prendes-Alvarez and Jamie Rosenkrantz for a “truly great” event.
Through pledges raised by participants, the Dean’s Walk/Run raised nearly $3,000 for DOCS, which annually provides free health care screenings to nearly 2,000 medically underserved individuals at a series of community health fairs, the first of which was held October 6 in Hialeah. The Little Haiti Health Fair is this Saturday, October 27.
