Diversity Leader Wins Visionary Award
Adding to her career honors, Nanette Vega, M.A., Executive Director for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, recently received a Diversity Visionary Award from Insight into Diversity magazine.
The prestigious award was announced in June by the magazine’s publisher Lenore Pearlstein, who cited Vega’s “vision, dedication and long-term commitment to diversity and inclusion.” The magazine recognizes individuals who have made significant past and present contributions to diversity in higher education.
“I am humbled to be honored to receive the Diversity Visionary Award from Insight into Diversity,” said Vega, who will be officially recognized in an upcoming magazine issue. “I am proud to serve an institution that is committed to our community and truly values our diversity.”
Vega joined the University of Miami in 1999. She has served in many key roles, including Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs and Assistant Dean of Students.
Through programs such as the Miami Model diversity program, Vega has provided minority high school and college students with the guidance to pursue health and science professions and the necessary tools to apply to medical school.
Her efforts have had impact locally and nationally, and she has received many honors from the University of Miami, including Iron Arrow, the Dr. Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award and the Laurel Award for outstanding work with students.
