Clerkship Directors and Coordinators Hold Annual Joint Retreat
Directors and coordinators of the clinical clerkships on both the Miami and regional medical campuses met on May 20 for their annual retreat. The joint meeting is held each year to ensure that clerkships on both campuses are coordinated and aligned in delivering an excellent clinical education to University of Miami Miller School of Medicine students.
Attendees were presented with student outcomes from the past academic year. Necessary changes for the upcoming academic year were also discussed, including preparation for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education site visit in February 2017.
Clerkship directors expressed appreciation for the opportunity to continue their collaboration with their counterparts on both campuses and maintain alignment of students’ educational experiences.
“The retreat was very productive and allowed for clerkship directors to engage in the important task of ensuring that the objectives of individual clerkships are mapped to the overall objectives and mission of the medical school,” said Paul E. Mendez, M.D., associate professor of medicine and Associate Dean for Clinical Curriculum.
“It is critical that all of us that are responsible for educating students have an opportunity at least once a year to jointly reflect on our mission, our outcomes and the tasks that lie ahead,” said Gauri G. Agarwal, M.D., assistant professor of medicine and Associate Regional Dean for Medical Curriculum.
