Antonio C. Marttos, Jr., M.D., associate professor of surgery and Director of Global e-Health/Trauma Telemedicine at the William Lehman Injury Research Center, has been named the 2016 recipient of the Person of the Year Award in the 19th Annual Brazilian International Press Awards U.S.A., a recognition program that is part of the Focus Brazil Foundation.
The award notification said Marttos had been selected for his “outstanding performance and contribution to the Brazilian positive image in the United States.”
“I am honored to have been chosen to receive this award,” said Marttos, “and I am proud that the work I have been doing at the University of Miami has been recognized by the international community.”
Marttos will play a key role in his home country’s hosting of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he and other Miller School physicians will coordinate medical emergency services. He has also developed the medical emergency plan for all Olympic athletes and heads of state attending the Games.
