50th Miami Winter Symposium is January 22-25
The 50th Miami Winter Symposium will take place January 22-25 at the Hyatt Regency Miami. Once again, it will showcase one of the Miller School of Medicine’s centers of excellence, in this case the Diabetes Research Institute. The topic is “Diabetes: Today’s Research, Tomorrow’s Therapies.”
University of Miami President Julio Frenk will welcome the visitors, who come from across the globe. There are seven awardees, five of them former colleagues of President Frenk from Harvard University.
From a small event centered on biochemistry, the Winter Symposium has grown to be an international gathering in molecular medicine. Last year, there were 345 participants from 32 countries. The symposium was founded by William J. Whelan, Ph.D., D.Sc., in 1968, when he became the chair of biochemistry. He is still a faculty member, a director of the Winter Symposium, and at the age of 92 plans to attend his 50th Miami Winter Symposium — the only person who has been at all 50 events.
All fee waivers for the symposium have been distributed, but reduced fees are available, and are not subject to a late registration penalty. The program can be found at www.miamiwintersymposium.com.
